Vital Force – What Is It and How Is It The Significant Aspect of Homeopathic Prescribing?
The simplest definition of vital force can be “Life Forceâ€! Vital force is what constitutes you and me. Aboe the material existence, every human being is capable of higher functions untraceable by existing scientific parameters. Vital force is the entity that makes it happen. It is THE difference between living and dead animals. It is the combination of physical, mental, and spiritual existence of living beings.
Dr Hahnemann the founder of Homeopathy introduced the world this Vital Principle (as termed in the 6th edition of Organon of Medicine). It is the unintelligible, dynamic, spiritual, and instinctive force that animates the material body.
In the 9th aphorism of Organon of Medicine, Hahnemann says, “In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force (autocracy), the dynamis that animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operations, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.â€
Thus, to maintain the harmony of life, we must have healthy vital force. It enables the reason-gifted mind to perceive all the things clearly and utilize them for better purposes. Vital force has the innate ability to resist the disease and preserve health. All our bodily functions are controlled by vital force.
In the healthy states, there is perfect balance between body, mind, and spirit; that’s the reason vital force enjoys harmonious state. Or we can say vital force is healthy and so the body enjoys the perfect harmony. It is this force that prevents dangerous diseases when in health.
However, when this vital force is affected by external and/or internal factors producing disease state, it gets deranged. In acute maladies, when the morbid agents are not violent, vital force can overcome them by its sheer resistance and no outside help (in the form of medicine) is needed. However, when the attack by external agents is severe, vital force needs assistance from agents that can re-establish the harmony of vital force by acting according to the nature’s principle “Like cures likeâ€. This stimulates the vital force and helps him get rid of the morbific agents on its own.
In chronic diseases, many times, the morbific agent lies inside the body deep within the built up of a man or woman. According to homeopathic principles, one of the miasms dominate, the four major being Psora, syphilis Sycosis, and tubercular. Often they lie in overlapping format and one of them dominates in one particular instance. Recognizing them is one of the crucial aspects before a homeopathic physician brings back the equilibrium in the vital force. Only after comprehending the dominant miasm and treating the individual as per it enables the physician to stimulate the dormant vital force and employ its enhanced energy to repel the disease process rooted deep within.
Here it is important that “Vital Force†is not merely a concept in homeopathy but it is the soul of homeopathic prescribing when each and every aspect of the individual is considered with an absolutely individualistic attitude and given apt consideration while stimulating this force with aptly chosen homeopathic remedies.
